West Breakwater Lighthouse
Open House June 11
We all have birthdays. For the Fairport Harbor West Lighthouse, it’s June 9, 1925, the day its light was first lit.
The doors swing open annually to welcome the community for an open house, self-guided tour and naturally, a birthday cake.
This year’s Annual Birthday Open House is scheduled for Saturday, June 11 from noon – 4 p.m. Last year well over a hundred people patiently waited their turn to come in for a peek.
Enjoy a stroll on the beach, climb the jagged breakwall and carefully make your way to the ladder at the bottom of the platform. Ascend the cast iron circular staircase to tackle all five floors and admire renovations to the lighthouse to date. Wear comfortable shoes, bring a bottle of water, and bring some friends. The view from the top makes it all worth it! Admission is free and open to the public, though donations are kindly appreciated.
Happy 91st Birthday Fairport Harbor West Lighthouse!
